A pub is a
house where drinks, alcoholic drinks and many times food are served. Pubs are
very popular places around Britain. They are places where you can meet friends
and chat. The history of the pubs is linked to the Romans. The establishment of
a net of roads allowed the creation of different inns for the travellers to have
refreshments. These were called “tabernae”. Later, during the middle Ages, inns
provided lodging, food and drink to travellers. Then, these businesses evolved until what we
know today as the traditional pub. They are considered as institutions. Let’s see some facts about pubs:
- The owner of the pub is called the pub landlord.
- Some of the most common names of pubs are: Red Lion, Royal Oak, White Hart, or Crown.
- The common beer measures in Britain are pint (568.26 ml) and half pint.
- Different types of beer are ale or lager.
BRIGHTON
Brighton is a city located in the South East of
England. Brighton has always been popular because of its spa and its proximity
to London. Brighton was the most popular spa during the XVIII century. The
Prince of Wales, later George IV, built in Brighton a huge and extravagant
palace. It was an oriental inspired palace. Now this palace belongs to the city
of Brighton, because the Queen Victoria sold it to them. Now, you can visit
this exotic palace. Brighton is a versatile city today. You can visit museums
and houses, go to the seaside and visit the Sea Life Centre, buy in its shops,
discover its night life, enjoy their great restaurants and discover its
cultural life.
