AFTERNOON TEA

The afternoon tea is the best known meal around the world. It is a meal composed of tea, cakes, sandwiches, scones, muffins, fruit and all types of sweets.

Tea is very popular in Britain and they are the largest consumers of tea in the world. Tea became very popular in the 18th century and it was common in all social classes in Britain. Anna Russell, the Duchess of Bedford created the tradition of the afternoon tea, as a light meal between lunch and dinner. This tradition continues nowadays. Tea rooms or small restaurants where tea and light food is served are also very popular around Britain.
 










SCONES
Ingredients:
225g of flour
1 spoon of baking powder
a pinch of salt
55g of butter
50g of caster sugar
150ml of milk
(Butter, jam or cream to serve)

How to do it:
Preheat oven.
Mix the flour, baking powder and caster sugar.
Add the egg, milk and butter.
Leave to rest for twenty minutes.
Roll out the dough and cut circles with a glass for example.
Leave to rest for ten minutes and bake them for ten minutes.

You can serve them with butter, cream, jam, ham or whatever you like. Yummy!
